Why the Trade Benefits the New York Knicks
The Knicks finally have first round draft picks after wasting money in trades that ultimately did not work out, insert jokes about Andrea Bargnani. The next have added players like RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, and now Obi Toppin in the draft as the young core of the team.
New York thinks that they have some youth on the roster now but could use the proven stars to help get them to the next level. The Knicks have said that they would take on an undesirable contract but missed out on names like Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook.
This is where DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge will come into play. They are culture-changing players who can help the next generation build for the future. Knicks’ fans are desperate for entertainment and a team they could watch on a nightly basis.
This move is not even necessarily about winning a championship. It is about possibly contending for the postseason and having two players that can help the next generation mature. The Knicks have not made a splash in quite some time, since the Carmelo Anthony deal, and it would be nice to see the team had some players that fans want to watch.
