Why the Trade Benefits the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are a win-now team. They made a run to the Eastern Conference Finals during the restart but fell short as they were eliminated by the Miami Heat. They are in a position to add role players around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. This is what this trade will do.

Aaron Gordon could be a strong complementary player for Tatum and Brown. He can play multiple positions and defend at a high-level. Ross can serve as an impactful scorer off the bench with his ability to convert on pull-up jumpers and shots from deep, in general.

There is a lot of movement in the Eastern Conference so far this NBA off-season. The Celtics will enter the 2020-21 campaign as one of the top teams in the NBA. It appears there were some concerns with Walker’s knees towards the end of the playoff run— making a change justifiable.

The Celtics did not make the big trade on NBA Draft night as many expected. It is still likely that Boston decides to make a move to improve their roster prior to the season.
