Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Rockets
For the Rockets, if they are forced to trade Russell Westbrook, they need to find a way to bring a point guard back. Mike Conley may not be the top-notch star that he once was, but he is still a very good point guard.
Last season with the Jazz, Conley ended up averaging 14.4 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. He did struggle with some issues that kept him off the floor, but the numbers weren’t horrible. With a bigger role, Conley could bounce back a bit.
The only negative here is that Conley is 33 years old. He is in the latter stages of his career and is certainly not in his prime.
O’Neale is a solid role player that would fit with the Rockets. He chipped in 6.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. In addition to those numbers, he shot 37.7 percent from the three-point line.
Both of these guys would play roles with the Rockets. It may not be a huge haul for Westbrook, but it would add two quality players that could help keep them in contention in the Western Conference.
