Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Indiana Pacers
For the Pacers, this trade would be all about trying to get something for Victor Oladipo before he potentially leaves next offseason. They may choose to start the season with Oladipo and see what he has to offer.
However, if they are open to moving Oladipo, this trade could make sense.
Malcolm Brogdon is more than capable of sliding up to the shooting guard spot. That would allow Dennis Smith Jr. to come in and start at point guard. He is just 22 years old and has plenty of time to grow.
Back in 2018-19 as the starting point guard for the Knicks, Smith averaged 14.7 points per game to go along with 5.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 41.3 percent from the floor and knocked down 28.9 percent from the three-point line.
Adding a first-round pick, even a late-first which is likely from the Mavericks, would be nice for the Pacers. It would give Kevin Pritchard a chance to add a young piece or package the pick in a trade. This would be a solid return with major upside for Indiana.
