Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Hornets
Charlotte has had a surprising offseason so far. They went out and brought in LaMelo Ball with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Following that pickup, they were able to convince Gordon Hayward to sign a four-year, $120 million contract in free agency.
Granted, many fans are upset about the amount of money the Hornets paid Hayward. But, they had to pay that money in order to convince an All-Star caliber player to come to Charlotte.
Hayward may not be what he once was, but he still averaged 17.5 points per game last season and also chipped in 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Those numbers are nothing to laugh at. Now, the Hornets need to focus on building more if they want to make a push for a playoff spot.
Beverley would be a huge addition for the Hornets. He would be a great veteran mentor for Ball and would provide elite defense and energy to the team. Adding a second-round pick for the future would give them another asset to work with.
Last season with the Clippers, Beverley averaged 7.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals. He isn’t an offensive threat, but he would be a nice compliment to Ball in the back-court.
Those numbers would look great in the back-court for the Hornets. Moving on from Rozier would be tough, but this trade is worth it because of the fit.
