LeBron James told Chris Bosh he was leaving Miami Heat over text

There was great promise that came with the Miami Heat’s “Big Three” era led by LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. After winning NBA championships together, James opted to return back to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.

During an appearance on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast, Bosh mentioned how James informed him he was departing from the Heat in NBA free agency over a text message.

Bosh made it clear that James’ approach was upsetting at the time but he later got over it. The focus Bosh had was on bringing the team back together after losing the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs. Instead, the Heat lost the league’s best player.

After James departed from the Heat, Bosh was unable to play much longer for the remainder of his NBA career. He appeared in just 44 regular-season games in 2014-15 and only 53 games in 2015-16 due to blood clots in his lung— later proving to be a career-ending issue.

The decision by James to depart the Heat for the Cleveland Cavaliers is one that Bosh understood as time went on. It certainly didn’t hurt that it resulted in James bringing the first ever NBA championship to his hometown team— the same organization he left for Miami.

The choices LeBron James has made from a switching teams standpoint haven’t been free of controversy— even from the perspective of his former teammates like Chris Bosh.
