The Indiana Pacers have faced a strange situation with Victor Oladipo since his torn quad tendon injury. After a controversial story in the IndyStar about the two-time NBA All-Star, he tried to clear the air.

In an interview with The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Oladipo expressed how he remains committed to the Pacers organization ahead of the 2019-20 season— denying the allegation that he asked players on other teams to ‘come get him.’

“I know there have been people saying that I have asked players to trade for me. That’s just not true, period. I love my teammates, I cherish the state of Indiana and I’m focused on leading this franchise to a title,” Oladipo told The Athletic.

The situation involving the Pacers and Oladipo is rather complicated. He enters the 2020-21 season on an expiring contract and will not be agreeing to a contract extension this offseason. He will look to test free agency in 2021— making the likelihood of a resolution unlikely.

The Pacers face an uphill battle if they wish to trade Oladipo before. the start of the upcoming NBA season. His trade value is at an all-time low after he underwhelmed in the bubble. Many teams prefer to ‘wait and see’ if he can recover his previous form before pursuing a trade.

The best-case scenario for the Pacers clearly is that Oladipo managers to recover his pre-injury form and agrees to a contract extension next NBA offseason. However, there is chance he underwhelms again and is no longer worth the headache.

Regardless of what happens with Victor Oladipo, the Indiana Pacers have plenty of talent to remain competitive between Domantas Sabonis, TJ Warren, and Malcolm Brogdon. There is still the possibility of Myles Turner being involved in a trade, but if he remains, he is a key element to success, too.
