Why the Trade Benefits the Minnesota Timberwolves

It seems as though NBA Draft prospect Patrick Williams has received a promise from the Detroit Pistons— who hold the No. 7 pick in the order. With the Minnesota Timberwolves interested in landing the Florida State product, trading up is necessary.

It’s easy to see why the Timberwolves are so keen on adding Williams. His defensive versatility would be a welcomed match to pair with Karl-Anthony Towns in the frontcourt. Additionally, Williams stretches the floor, finishes well, and has shown legitimate shot creation ability.

Using the No. 17 pick in the NBA Draft will be a helpful tool for the Timberwolves to be able to execute a trade up. However, packaging it with an intriguing asset is an essential element to the process.

Jarrett Culver may have experienced an underwhelming rookie season, but regardless, he was a No. 6 pick just a year ago in the 2019 NBA Draft. The Atlanta Hawks could be intrigued by his potential. If they are, it should be enough to get a deal done.
