This Lakers-Spurs trade pairs DeMar DeRozan with LeBron James, Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers will enter the NBA offseason as reigning champions with a need to fine-tune the roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Could a trade for San Antonio Spurs star DeMar DeRozan be a potential option?

For the Spurs, they appear primed for a legitimate rebuild after holding onto hope of remaining competitive. Having to trade Kawhi Leonard a few seasons ago set the organization back too far to be able to compete to much extent in a loaded Western Conference.

There simply are too many teams that are quickly ascending in the Western Conference for the Spurs to keep up, too. The Golden State Warriors will be back., but also, the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and New Orleans Pelicans all rising.

With DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge as franchise building blocks, the Spurs simply aren’t equipped to keep up. Both players are getting older and will likely seek to go elsewhere in the near future. It’s time to get ahead of that and make some trades.

Meanwhile, the opposite is the case for the Lakers. LeBron James remains an elite talent that can lead a team to an NBA championship alongside Anthony Davis. Now, doing what it takes to maximize the supporting cast is ideal and trading for DeMar DeRozan would certainly help.

With that being said, let’s dive into a trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs that features DeMar DeRozan heading back to his hometown.
