Cleveland Cavaliers
As the Cavs sit at No. 5 overall in the NBA Draft, it looks to be a minuscule chance that James Wiseman is on the board when they pick. That increases the notion that, if he falls to 5, Cleveland can’t afford to pass on him.
Tristan Thompson is a free agent this offseason, and Andre Drummond will opt-in to his contract. But by opting in, Drummond puts Cleveland on the hook for $28 million, the value of his option.
If the Cavs were able to grab Wiseman, that would probably increase the odds that Drummond is traded — and thus removed off Cleveland’s payroll. Of course, assuming that Drummond was to opt-in for the final-year player-option he faces.
The Cavs have multiple young guards with potential, but this would be a way to balance out some of their young core by adding a talented center prospect in Wiseman.
