5 teams who must pursue a trade for DeMar DeRozan this offseason

When the San Antonio Spurs made the big trade for DeMar DeRozan, he was supposed to be the team’s next franchise player. The fact is, he has not taken over for Kawhi Leonard the way he was expected to.

With some negative feelings on both ends, DeRozan could be on the move.

DeRozan has not been an All-Star since arriving in San Antonio and was a part of a Spurs’ team that missed the postseason. That was the first time this happened since 1997.

He is currently mulling a $27.7 million player option for next season, but it would not make much sense to turn that down. This could lead to a trade.

At 31 years old, DeRozan is still an effective weapon. He is one of the league’s top mid-range players. DeRozan is not a three-point threat and does not play good defense. He is an effective slasher, but that does not do much for the Spurs moving forward with their rebuild.

When DeRozan hits the trading block, and it seems unavoidable, there will be some teams after him. Let’s take a look at five teams who should be interested.
