Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Russell Westbrook

Houston Rockets Receive: Rajon Rondo, Alex Caruso, 2020 First-Round Pick, 2022 First-Round Pick

The Rockets gave up Chris Paul and some draft picks in order to land Russell Westbrook. In this scenario, they would get back some draft capital, even though they will be late round picks.

The Rockets could use some first-round picks no matter where they are. Rondo is also a valuable piece in this deal. He was a huge part of the Lakers’ playoff run. Rondo is a point guard with a lot of experience on winning teams.

That is something the Rockets do not have. Rondo’s passing ability and IQ on the court would benefit Harden. It would take pressure off him and provide a pass first guard who knows how to set up his teammates.

The attractive part of this deal is that the Lakers do not have to give up too much personnel wise. To land Westbrook, they would be willing to give up late first-round picks in exchange for rings. That is what they did when they acquired Pau Gasol.

Obviously, if Rondo opts out of his deal and some believe he will, this deal may not work without a sign-and-trade.
