Why the Pistons Should Do It
The Pistons are in the midst of a rebuild, but this deal would give them multiple pieces in exchange for Griffin.
There’s an argument to be made that Detroit is better off with Lopez and Bledsoe for nearly the same salary as Griffin.
The same could be said for Middleton-to-Detroit in place of Lopez and Bledsoe, but the goal of this deal for Milwaukee is to keep Middleton.
Blake Griffin is 31, and coming off of an injury. While he says he’s healthy, he will not be getting any younger, and by keeping him you run the risk of another injury in the future.
Lopez is an experienced center who, over the last few years, has added three-point shooting to his repertoire. Lopez can stretch the floor for the Pistons, and he has a carer PER of 19.6.
Bledsoe would give the Pistons added flexibility, as Derrick Rose has been the subject of trade speculation already this offseason. If Detroit trades Rose in an unrelated deal, Bledsoe would be able to step right in as the leader in the backcourt.
