REPORT: Knicks to pursue Rajon Rondo in NBA free agency

The New York Knicks have been stuck in mediocrity for far too long, but they are hoping to change that this offseason. While they would like to bring in a star via trade, they also will pursue some quality free agents. One of those will be Los Angeles Lakers’ impending free agent point guard Rajon Rondo.

After an impressive postseason run with the Lakers, Rondo will be opting out of his contract this offseason. Rondo will have an extensive market, but the Knicks could make a ton of sense for him.

According to a report from Legion Hoops, the Knicks are indeed going to pursue Rondo when free agency opens.

During the 2019-20 regular season with the Lakers, Rondo ended up averaging 7.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds. He took his game to another level in the postseason, averaging 8.9 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.

Rondo was not asked to score the ball much by the Lakers. With the Knicks, he would have a much larger offensive role. He would also be unleashed to be a full-time playmaker, which is the kind of role that he needs.

At 34 years old, Rondo may opt to continue competing for championships. However, money always talks and the Knicks could certainly offer him that.

While the Knicks are going to be one of the teams pursuing Rondo, there will be a long list of others. Quite a few contenders would love to add Rondo and the Lakers would likely love to have him back at the right price. Rondo will have plenty of options to choose from.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Rajon Rondo this offseason. The Knicks may not end up getting him, but they are absolutely going to be a team to keep a close eye on.
