Why the Heat Should Do It

The Heat are setting themselves up for a free agent class in 2021 that could include Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Victor Oladipo, and many others.

The acquisition of Kyle Lowry would be unique in that he could help the 2021 Heat, without jeopardizing the future for the Heat in 2022 and beyond.

Miami would have to take on his salary for 2021, but as mentioned in the intro slide, that would be their only obligation to Lowry on his current contract.

This move would work for Miami because it comes with flexibility. Even if Miami needed to include a pick, they should consider it because their window of contention is wide open. Lowry could also be the “Robin” to Jimmy Butler’s “Batman.”
