Why The Golden State Warriors Should Do It
If the Warriors don’t feel the need to stick at No. 2 in the 2020 NBA Draft, this trade would allow them to still grab a player in the top 10 while adding Robinson.
The allure of Robinson, as The Athletic noted, is his cost-effective contract for a Warriors team full of expensive contracts.
Golden State could immediately use Robinson as its starting center, but it would be a costly addition in the way of draft picks.
If the Warriors put the No. 2 pick up for sale, there’s a good chance it’ll be for a player and a pick, instead of just picks.
This Warriors team is looking for an impact player, they’re not looking to just stockpile picks as the Thunder did in the Paul George trade to the Clippers.
Due to the aggressive nature of the Warriors front office, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the No. 2 pick, and next year’s first-round pick on the trade block. Mitchell would be a costly acquisition from the Knicks, but his affordable contract would fit nicely into the Warriors’ payroll.
