Why The New York Knicks Should Do It

The Knicks would jump all the way up to No. 2 in the 2020 NBA Draft, where they figure to have their pick between James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards, and many others.

In this trade, if New York includes Robinson, they could immediately select his replacement in Wiseman.

This trade would hinge on New York’s opinion of Wiseman. If the Knicks feel that Wiseman is a can’t-miss talent, they could plug him in immediately, and he would come with more control than Robinson.

Robinson will likely be eligible for free agency after the 2022 season, as the Knicks hold a team option on him for 2021-22.

Wiseman offers a younger option, and a top talent in the 2020 draft.

New York would also acquire Looney, a 6’9″ 24 year-old, who needs consistent minutes in order to develop.

The give-and-take of this deal, is that the Knicks part with Robinson, but in return they also land a first round pick in 2021.
