Thunder Acquire Two Veterans, Plus A Pick

The Trade:

Lakers acquire Chris Paul

Thunder acquire Danny Green, JR Smith, Talen Horton-Tucker and conditional 2021 first round pick.

In this trade, the Thunder would have to take on the salaries of Green and Smith. But each of their respective contracts will expire before Paul’s, so the cap space would not be tied up for as long as it would if the Thunder kept Paul.

The Lakers’ first round pick in 2021 heads to New Orleans if it falls between 1-7, so in theory this could end up as a 2022 first round pick.

Lastly, the Thunder could take a flier on Horton-Tucker, the 19-year-old guard who has seen some playing time in the playoffs already.
