This 76ers-T’Wolves deal would swap Ben Simmons, No. 1 pick

Why the Sixers Should Do It

This possibility comes into play if Rivers feels Ben Simmons is not a fit long-term. If the 76ers want to build around Joel Embiid, while simultaneously adding a young foundational player, the No. 1 pick from the Timberwolves would allow them to do so.

Simmons is extremely talented, but he’s also been the subject of various questions throughout his career. Should he run the point on offense? Can he improve as a shooter? And perhaps most importantly, can Philadelphia win with him?

If the Sixers feel that Simmons has reached his ceiling as a player, they could retool while also remaining in contention.

However, with Rivers in tow, we know he did not come to Philadelphia to rebuild. If he and Elton Brand feel the team can capitalize on Simmons’ trade value and simultaneously remain in contention, this could be a move worth considering. It would also send a loud signal that this is Joel Embiid’s team moving forward.
