The nickname didn’t fit the performance
It was George who anointed himself “Playoff P,” but in the actual playoffs, he was lackluster. We cannot forget that in the fourth quarter of game 7 against Denver, George and Leonard combined for a grand total of zero points.
The image of George’s jumper hitting the side of the backboard will likely be on the minds of Clippers fans for quite some time.
To state the obvious: Of the two, George and Leonard, Kawhi has to be considered the one who is untouchable. But George, who scored just 10 points in game 4, and another 10 points in the decisive game 7, may be on thin ice in Ballmer’s mind.
This team was admittedly hastily assembled, but George and Leonard are stars. Leonard is considered a superstar. This team should’ve accomplished more, and it’s hard to fault Ballmer for feeling the team underachieved in the playoffs.
