LaMarcus Aldridge, San Antonio Spurs
At one point in his career, the acquisition of LaMarcus Aldridge would’ve been considered a blockbuster move. At 35, Aldridge is past his prime, but the seven-time All Star could still be a valuable piece for a team in the right situation.
If he were to land in South Beach, Miami would not ask Aldridge to anchor their front court on a consistent basis, but his wealth of experience could bode well for the Heat’s young star, Bam Adebayo. Certainly, Aldridge’s minutes have to be monitored moving forward, as he surpassed 1,000 games played in his career during the 2020 season.
That being said, he was still good for 33 minutes per game this past season, while averaging 18.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. It’s also worth noting that his eFG in 2019-20, 53 percent, was the highest mark of his career.
Aldridge can be a free agent after the 2021 season, when he’ll be 36 years old, so this would be a short-term move for the Heat. But if Miami deems its front-court as an area in need of an upgrade, Aldridge could bring valuable experience both on the court and in mentoring Adebayo.
