Both the starting lineup and second-unit for the Dallas Mavericks have been highly successful this season. That’s a key reason why the team has posted a league-best output of 1.04 PPP (1st) on offense and is in contention for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

There have already been adjustments required by some of the Mavericks’ key supporting cast members to become used to their given roles. Tim Hardaway Jr. being inserted into the starting lineup after struggling with the bench. Both units have thrived ever since that point.

“I’m not going to lie, it was tough,” Hardaway said. “I wasn’t getting the looks I was hoping to get, and I was battling through stuff, just trying to force a look here and there, and I knew that wasn’t my game.”

It doesn’t seem to make much sense to force the team to have to adjust to their placement within the team again. They are already thriving so well after going through a few growing pains in the early part of the season. Making a change could disrupt the momentum of a whole unit.

The way the Mavericks operate offensively has been obviously successfully given the results and it’s worthwhile to see how it translates like before making any major changes. A playoff series will give Dallas a perfect look at what exactly needs to be adjusted in the offseason.
