Boston Celtics: 3 Goals for the Upcoming 2018-19 Season

3. Take Advantage of Their Deep Roster

There are few teams that can rival the high-level depth Boston have right now. With the additions of Kyrie and Hayward, they bat nine-deep, and that’s discounting guys like Daniel Theis, Semi Ojeleye and first-round pick, Robert Williams. The amount of talent at Boston’s disposal allows them to ease the burden across the roster as they see fit.

Via Boston.com, Rozier averaged a team-high 86.4 touches per game during the playoffs which will allow him to step in nicely when Irving experiences health issues (which he will). Kyrie hasn’t played more than 75 regular season games once across his seven-season career and has only played more than 70 games three times.

The inevitable management of Boston’s most precious star will be made easy by the ability to throw Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier into the lineup as more than apt replacements.

The competition for minutes will be hot out at the TD Garden as was reiterated by rookie sensation, Jayson Tatum.

“It’s going to be very competitive. Obviously we have a lot of talent. I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The experience guys like Tatum and Brown got last season in the unplanned absence of Hayward will leave them in a perfect spot to make a continued impact in 2018-19. Despite the fact coach Stevens doesn’t think Hayward and Irving will need to be rested on back-to-backs with the luxury of so much talent at his disposal, he’d be wise to do so at least early on.
