Dallas Mavericks: 3 Goals for the Upcoming 2018-19 Season

After several years of middle-of-the-pack finishes, the Mavericks finally committed to a total rebuild before the 2017-18 season. As great as Dirk Nowitzki has been, it’s clear that his time as the star and statistical leader of a team has passed him by.

He still shows flashes of the player he used to be, but as it does with all great players, it seems that age has finally caught up to him. It was time for the Mavericks to find the proverbial heir to the throne, and they jumped at the opportunity.

They drafted one of their cornerstones of the future in Dennis Smith Jr, but ultimately finished with their worst record in 20 years. After going 24-58, the Mavs earned the 5th pick in the draft through the lottery. On draft night, they traded up to acquire Luka Doncic, who has been touted as one of, if not the best, international prospects ever.

The Mavericks also made moves in free agency, bringing in All-Star big man DeAndre Jordan. With a retooled roster and more of an emphasis on youth, the Mavericks could be well on their way to competing in the Western Conference again.

Here are three goals they can strive for next season.
