2. Second Unit Leadership and Stability
Last season Milwaukee’s second unit hindered the team from closing out games or coming back from double-digit deficits. Nobody from the second unit outside of Jabari Parker and Brogdon who occasionally started averaged more than 10 points a game.
The Bucks need to consider signing D-Wade because he could instantly help off the bench. Wade, unlike other superstars who start to decline, has no problem adjusting to a new role.
While finishing the year in Miami last season, he helped provide a spark off the bench, while coaching from the sideline on occasion. Often time players who face a role change go through the phases of denial. Two examples could be Allen Iverson who was entering the final phase of his career and Carmelo Anthony who is still in the NBA.
Iverson struggled to come off the bench which led to his departure from the Memphis Grizzlies in 2011. Anthony, on the other hand, parted ways with the Oklahoma City Thunder after a subpar season. Melo wanted out after the constant talks of a bench role started to become a real possibility.
D-Wade would be a good target for the Bucks because he is a three-time champion and has already received max money. Recruiting the flash should be a no-brainer because he has accomplished a lot and can still produce points, bring the ball up and play team defense on occasion.
Although Riley would like for Wade to return to Miami the fact of the matter is that the relationship may still be strained. Also, in regards to talent, both the Heat and Bucks are evenly matched. Needless to say, playing with Antetokounmpo has more of an upside.
