Indiana Pacers: 3 Questions Following the 2018 NBA Offseason

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Can Tyreke Evans Remain Healthy, Live Up to Expectations?

First and foremost, Tyreke Evans was a pickup that many believe was one of the best of the entire offseason. He had a huge season last year with the Memphis Grizzlies and is projected to have a massive role this season for the Pacers.

In the 52 games that he played last season for the Grizzlies, Evans averaged 19.4 points per game to go along with 5.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds. He shot 45.2 percent from the field overall and knocked down 39.9 percent of his three-point attempts. The only issue was that he played in just 52 games.

While the chunk of games that he missed were a concern, Evans was adamant that many of those missed games were not due to injury. In other words, the Grizzlies rested Evans in order to tank.

Evans will be asked to be a primary scoring option coming off the bench for the second unit. There is a good chance that he will end up playing starter’s minutes when everything is said and done.

Fans weren’t happy that the Pacers declined the team option on Lance Stephenson, but Evans is a major upgrade. Health may be a concern, but Evans isn’t concerned at all. He is ready to take on his new role and prove that he is capable of consistently putting up the numbers that he had last season with the Grizzlies.
