Golden State’s One Weakness Is Completely Fixed
While there are some ways that the addition of Cousins could end up hurting the Warriors, there are a lot of ways that he could be the one missing piece they needed to find. Golden State has struggled against teams with the ability to throw the ball in the post and let their big man go to work. That won’t be the case anymore with Cousins starting at center.
Last season with the New Orleans Pelicans, Cousins ended up averaging 25.2 points per game to go along with 12.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. He may not be talked about as a rim protector, but he showed major progress in that role last season.
As you can see from his numbers, Cousins will also bring elite rebounding to the table. Golden State didn’t necessarily “need” to get a rebounder, but Cousins is the total package and fixes that hole.
If Cousins is willing to get back in the post and limit floating around the three-point line, the Warriors’ offense is complete as well. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are deadeye shooters, Kevin Durant can shoot and score from anywhere, Draymond Green is a playmaker and consummate teammate, and Cousins can score from the post, mid-range, and even from the arc.
Cousins will fix the weakness that the Warriors have had and will make them nearly unbeatable come playoff time.
