Oklahoma City Thunder: 3 Takeaways from the 2018 NBA Offseason

Free Agency Was a Huge Win for the Thunder

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

There were rumors and reports all season long that Paul George would leave the Thunder in free agency. Many thought he would follow his life-long dream to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. That didn’t end up happening.

George quickly re-signed with the Thunder on a four-year deal worth $137 million. It was a huge victory for the Thunder to be able to convince him to stay. In addition to George, the Thunder made several other key additions this offseason.

Nerlens Noel has not improved the way that many fans and media analysts thought he would. Despite the fact that he hasn’t lived up to his full potential, Noel is still a quality backup big man behind Steven Adams. Bringing back Jerami Grant was also a big plus for the Thunder.

Many people also forget that Andre Roberson missed a huge portion of last season due to injury. He may not be a free agency pickup, but adding him to the lineup will bring much-needed defense. Roberson is likely the most important piece for the Thunder outside of Westbrook and George.

The offseason didn’t bring any “slashes” for the Thunder other than George, but there most certainly were other major additions.
