Oklahoma City Thunder: 3 Takeaways from the 2018 NBA Offseason

Addition By Subtraction Will Be a Real Thing

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Carmelo Anthony was at one point one of the most lethal scorers in the NBA. Last season, however, he was an extremely inefficient scorer and was a cancer to team chemistry. Oklahoma City decided to move on from him as soon as possible, which could be the best move of the offseason.

Westbrook and George play well off of each other, but Anthony seemed to be a ball-stopper. He never figured out how to play a role alongside two other stars. Anthony also didn’t seem willing to take a lesser role in the offense even when he was struggling.

Even though having Anthony on a roster adds entertainment, the Thunder could not afford to keep him around for another season.

Trading Anthony was a needed move and one that should help the team get back on track. George and Westbrook will pick up where they left off and there is a better supporting cast around them.
