The Boston Celtics are interested in trading for Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart this NBA offseason, according to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic

However, the Pistons are not expected to trade Stewart.

The Portland Trail Blazers drafted Stewart with the 16th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Washington. The Blazers traded the big man to the Houston Rockets, who then sent him to the Pistons.

Stewart averaged 11.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists for the Pistons this past season. The New York native shot 44.2% from the field, 32.7% from beyond the arc and 73.8% from the free-throw line.

The Pistons can sign Stewart to a rookie-scale extension this offseason. If Detroit and Stewart can’t agree to an extension, the 22-year-old will become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024.

In 189 games with the Pistons, Stewart is averaging 9.0 points, 7.8 boards and 1.1 assists. Detroit’s front office loves what the youngster brings to the table every night.

“Sometimes it’s just about kicking everybody’s ass,” Pistons general manager Troy Weaver said, per a source who spoke with Edwards III about Stewart.

“My dad came to America to chase a better life,” Isaiah said. “I love to listen to the stories that he went through when he first got here to the States. His upbringing was tough. He worked hard here to provide a better life for me and my brother. All of this comes from him.”
