The race for the MVP award in the 2023-24 NBA regular season is going to be a hotly contested one. While some analysts thought that Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets was running away with the reward, several other players definitely closed the gap near the end of the season.

The most popular second option seems to be Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks. He willed his team to the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference with some incredible scoring nights and triple-double performances.

While he may not win the award, there is a contingent that is pushing for New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson to be in the mix as well. Brunson carried New York to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference despite the team missing three starters for more than half of the season combined.

But, there is one more player in the Western Conference that could end up stealing the award away. That would be Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Gilgeous-Alexander has production worthy of MVP consideration and the team’s success helps his case as well.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander & Oklahoma City Thunder Updates

The discussions to push him for the award are getting louder and louder, and rightfully so. One of the people to recently get on the SGA MVP bandwagon is former NBA point guard, Eddie House.

During a recent segment on The Carton Show, House revealed that he believes Gilgeous-Alexander is a no-brainer choice for the MVP award in the NBA this season. He is the best player on the best team in the Western Conference and deserves recognition for that in House’s opinion.

What the Thunder have been able to do in such a short period of time is extremely impressive. In the 2022 NBA Draft, they picked at No. 2 overall and came away with Chet Holmgren. Now, they are the youngest team in NBA history to land a No. 1 seed in a conference for the postseason.

There are a lot of people who have played a part in this turnaround, and Gilgeous-Alexander is in the middle of it. A legitimate two-way player whose team was never outside of the top three in the Western Conference certainly deserves a lot of attention for the MVP award.
