San Antonio Spurs Seek Backcourt Talent Around Victor Wembanyama

As the San Antonio Spurs continue to see historic results from Victor Wembanyama and remain excited to do so on a nightly basis as the 2023-24 season plays out, the focus will naturally shift to adding more talent around him when the offseason arrives.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs Updates

Sources tell NBA Analysis Network that the Spurs have done due diligence on backcourt options as they monitor the trade market for guards to pair with Wembanyama. San Antonio’s results with Tre Jones and Wembanyama serve as significant optimism for how the team could execute after a backcourt upgrade.

Wembanyama recently expressed his confidence in how the Spurs front office is approaching the long-term future with him in mind. He understands the clear objective is for him to impact the team positively on the court, but sees an alignment in their development.

“I couldn’t ask for better,” Wembanyama said. “Of course, my job is to be on the court and make baskets, but the fact that we work together, it is the best for both our developments.”

If the Spurs front office needs his insight, Wembanyama will provide it.

“I’m ready to be involved, to collaborate, to give, and to help in any way I can,” Wembanyama said.

Atlanta Hawks Potential Offseason Changes

With an expensive payroll for a team with a losing record in the Eastern Conference, the Atlanta Hawks could continue a cost-cutting process already begun this season by trading John Collins to the Utah Jazz in what proved to be a salary dump move.

Capela will earn $22.3 million on an expiring salary during the 2024-25 season. Sources tell NBA Analysis Network that the team desires to expand Onyeka Okongwu‘s role in the future, making Capela a trade candidate to watch this summer.
