On Thursday, Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs’ franchise cornerstone, shared his harmonious alignment with the team’s management regarding their vision for the future with long-term NBA championship aspirations.

“I feel like there’s no internal, there is no fights between us, so it is good,” Wembanyama said. “It’s the right way for the future.”

While the goal is clearly to compete at the highest level, Wembanyama described his relationship with the Spurs’ management as exceptional amid a 15-55 record through 70 games. He expressed his full confidence in the organization and described them as the best in the NBA.

“I couldn’t ask for better,” Wembanyama said. “Of course, my job is to be on the court and make baskets, but the fact that we work together, it is the best for both our developments.”

The discussion about Wembanyama’s collaboration with general manager Brian Wright and the team’s strategy for reconstruction surfaced after the 20-year-old Frenchman indicated last weekend in Austin his growing role in planning for the team’s future.

When probed about how he would contribute to the Spurs’ strategy for enhancing their roster through drafts, trades, and free agency, Wembanyama emphasized the importance of open communication.

“It’s a lot of communication with the coaches and the front office, of course, to know where we are comfortable with each other in the game and where we’re not comfortable, to know what kind of pieces we would need to add,” Wembanyama said.

“So it is a lot of discussion because, at the end of the day, the GM and the front office know their job, and they can do almost anything with what we got today,” Wembanyama continued. “But it’s a matter of how well they understand us, the players and the coaches, about where we want to go and how we want to develop.”

Wembanyama, recognizing his pivotal role and leadership in shaping the team’s destiny, insists on maintaining his lane while being open to consultations, especially regarding French draft prospects.

“I’m ready to be involved, to collaborate, to give, and to help in any way I can,” Wembanyama said.
