Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has taken on several ventures outside of the basketball court regularly in his NBA career. He has been a producer on movies and television shows, been an actor and can now add podcaster to his list of achievements.

Earlier this week, James embarked on his new project alongside former NBA guard, J.J. Redick. They are the hosts of the Mind The Game Pod and will be releasing episodes every week discussing a wide range of topics.

Of course, basketball will be discussed often throughout the episodes. They did a great job of going in-depth into different plays and schemes in the first episode, giving listeners a different perspective of how things are on the court.

Another topic that came up was Boston Celtics star, Jayson Tatum. Tatum is one of the players who could become the face of the NBA sooner than later when the current group of older veterans opt to move on from their playing days.

During the episode, James heaped a ton of praise on the Celtics superstar. They were discussing how long he and some of the other all-time greats took to win a championship, as some of the hate Tatum receives is unwarranted in James’ opinion.

“He’s 25 years old, and I believe he has been to the conference finals four times and to the NBA finals once. He’s 25. I didn’t win my first one until I was 28. I think Joker won his first one at 27. I think MJ was 28 as well… I think we have a lot of expectations on JT, but he’s experienced a lot of winning in his career so far. And obviously, everyone wants to see him get over the hump, but four conference finals and a finals appearance before the age of 26 is elite,” James said to Redick.

The Celtics have experienced a ton of success with Tatum on the roster. They have made the NBA Playoffs in all six seasons of his career, and this year will be No. 7. He already has four Eastern Conference Finals appearances under his belt with one trip to the NBA Finals.

This season, it certainly feels as if it is championship or bust for Tatum and the Celtics. They have been the most dominant team in the NBA all season, as they are 54-14, 10 games clear of second place in the Eastern Conference. The defending champion Denver Nuggets are the closest team with 48 victories.

This is a team that is in prime position to win a title. James’s words are true to an extent, but after the moves made in the 2023 NBA offseason to upgrade the roster, anything short of lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy in June would be considered a disappointment.
