The Los Angeles Lakers have lost two games in a row, falling to the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors in their last two contests. Those are excruciating losses for the Lakers, who are looking to climb out of the NBA Play-In Tournament; losing to two of the teams right ahead of them in the standings certainly isn’t ideal.
Now 36-32 on the season and three games behind the sixth-place Kings, the Lakers have their work cut out for them if they want to move up. Every game is important from here on out, but they may have lost more than just the game against the Warriors.
Early on in the 128-121 loss, the Lakers lost star big man Anthony Davis. While attempting a layup in the first quarter, Davis was inadvertently hit in the face by Golden State big man Trayce Jackson-Davis.
He would remain in the game for the following few minutes, but once he checked out, we didn’t see him back on the court. As shared by ESPN, Davis is dealing with a left corneal abrasion and was listed as questionable on Sunday for the team’s game against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.
NBA NEWS & SCORES: Anthony Davis & Los Angeles Lakers Updates
According to sources at ESPN, Davis was already starting to feel better later on Saturday night. That improvement continued on Sunday, as it sounds like he is trending in the right direction to be able to play on Monday.
During the 2023-24 NBA regular season, Davis has been able to shed the injury-prone label he has picked up throughout his career. Including the NBA Play-In Tournament championship, Davis has played in 65 out of 69 games the Lakers have had this season.
With only 14 games remaining in the regular season, the Lakers need Davis as healthy as possible. They are currently percentage points behind the Warriors for ninth place in the Western Conference and a home game in the first NBA Play-In Tournament game.
