New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson has cemented his status as one of the best players in the NBA at his position. He has put the team on his back at points this season with injuries to key players derailing the team’s success.

In the team’s last game, Brunson had yet another huge performance to help lead the Knicks to victory. Playing in a tough environment on the road against the Sacramento Kings, Brunson poured in 42 points.

It was a masterclass performance by the NBA All-Star, as Brunson shot 17-of-28 from the field and 5-of-10 from 3-point range. He added four rebounds, two assists, four steals and one block for an impressive stat line.

In the process, he made some Knicks history, joining an elite group. That was the second consecutive game in which Brunson scored 40+ points, as he scored 45 against the Portland Trail Blazers in the game before the Kings.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Jalen Brunson & New York Knicks Updates

That makes Brunson only the fourth player in Knicks history to score 40+ points in back-to-back games. The last player to do it was Carmelo Anthony in 2014. However, Brunson is the first guard to accomplish the feat for the franchise. The other two players to score 40+ points in back-to-back games were Bernard King and Patrick Ewing.

After the game, Brunson showed respect for the players who he joined on the impressive scoring list. “Greatful, Honored… Those guys have a  bigger resume then me then I ever will… I’m just tryna help my team win that’s all,” he said after the game when asked how it felt to be among those players, while speaking to Monica McNutt.

As long as Brunson is in the lineup, the Knicks will have a chance to compete with every team in the NBA. New York may be overmatched some nights given how short-handed their roster is currently, but when healthy, this isn’t going to be a team anyone wants to see in a playoff series.
