The Philadelphia 76ers have received encouraging news on the injury front ahead of their matchup against the New York Knicks during Monday’s NBA action.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Sixers point guard Tyrese Maxey is poised to make his return to the court in Tuesday’s matchup against the New York Knicks, having successfully completed the concussion protocol. This comes after his absence from four consecutive games due to the injury.

Maxey sustained the concussion in a victory over the Dallas Mavericks the previous Sunday, an incident where he collided head-first into Derrick Jones Jr.’s knee. Despite finishing the game, it was later disclosed by head coach Nick Nurse that Maxey experienced a “delayed and mild” concussion.

In his fourth season and celebrating his first All-Star nod, Maxey has established himself as one of the premier young guards in the league. He’s reached new personal bests this season with averages of 26.0 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.7 rebounds, providing a reliable performance amidst Philadelphia’s fluctuating season.

During Maxey’s absence, the Sixers, lacking in full strength, faced three defeats in four games, although they managed a narrow 79-73 victory over the Knicks on Sunday, adjusting their record to 36-28. The team has also been without Joel Embiid, the reigning MVP, who continues to recover from meniscus surgery conducted last month.

Currently, the Sixers are narrowly holding onto the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, with a mere half-game advantage over the Indiana Pacers. As the playoff race intensifies, Philadelphia’s recovery to full health becomes increasingly crucial.
