Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is one of the most talented players in the NBA. No matter what kind of game plan opponents draw up, he seemingly has an answer to counter it. That has led to some monster performances in recent games.

The Mavericks have fallen on some tough times as their defensive performance has fallen off a cliff. During their seven-game winning streak in February, Jason Kidd created a game plan to take advantage of the poor 3-point shooting teams they were facing. Unfortunately, against better opponents, he has not adjusted.

During that winning streak, the Mavericks had the best defensive rating in the NBA. Since returning from the NBA All-Star Break, they have the worst defensive rating in the league. They are allowing an alarming number of 3-pointers and their offense isn’t keeping up.

That isn’t for a lack of trying from Doncic, who is in the midst of a historic stretch. The Mavericks losing four out of their last five games has led to his performances going under the radar, but he is approaching some impressive NBA history.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Luka Doncic, Russell Westbrook, Oscar Robertson, Dallas Mavericks Updates

On Tuesday night against the Indiana Pacers, Doncic scored 39 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists. It was the fourth consecutive game that he has recorded a triple-double while scoring at least 30 points in the game.

According to NBA History on X, that puts him in an elite group. Only two players in NBA history have recorded four straight 30+ point triple-doubles; Russell Westbrook in 2017 and Oscar Robertson in 1961.

The Mavericks’ losing games in which Doncic is producing at such a high level is certainly disappointing. The last two are especially damaging, as they lost to the Philadelphia 76ers without Joel Embiid and gave up 137 points to the Pacers.

Even with Doncic’s heroics, the Mavericks have been a mess on the court. He will be looking to tie Westbrook’s record on Thursday when Dallas hosts the Miami Heat in the final game of their homestand. While achieving NBA immortality is a nice personal achievement, Doncic would likely trade that record in for some wins.
