Nets Trade Proposal Lands Bradley Beal From Suns

Building an NBA super team isn’t easy. To acquire that many stars, you need to manage your assets well. You also need some luck. If you play in a desirable market, that will be helpful as well.

At the moment, the Phoenix Suns have a super team. With Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal on the roster, the Suns have as much talent as anybody in the league. Unfortunately, the Suns haven’t lived up to expectations in 2023-24 so far.

That will happen. Look at the Brooklyn Nets. They recently built a superteam, and it failed. Could they acquire Bradley Beal from the Suns?

NBA Trade Proposal

Phoenix Suns Receive: F/C Ben Simmons, F Dorian Finney-Smith

Brooklyn Nets Receive: G/F Bradley Beal

Building a superteam isn’t easy. Is it desirable? Is this the best way to pursue an NBA title? Recent history suggests otherwise.

Organically built teams seemingly dominate the league. Plenty of evidence suggests that building through the draft is the most successful blueprint. It allows the players on a team to develop chemistry and find out what works over time.

Sure. At the same time, we’ll always see super teams. In the end, talent comes first – and in fairness, super teams have won championships as well. Should the Suns break up their superteam if they don’t win the 2023-24 title?

Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal

When the Suns acquired Beal, people raised their eyes. They already had an elite scoring guard in Devin Booker. Wasn’t it smarter to fill out their roster with quality role players?

Here, they’re correcting that mistake. Granted, if the Suns win the title this year, they’ll be able to justify their selection of Beal. Let’s assume that doesn’t happen. Could this deal make Phoenix a better team?

We think so. Finney-Smith is among the best 3-and-D wings in the NBA. When healthy, Simmons can impact the game with his versatile skillset. Should the Nets send the Suns two useful players?

Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal

Some Nets fans will protest this deal. In all fairness, taking on Beal’s contract isn’t optimal. If Brooklyn doesn’t want the financial burden, that would be understandable.

At the same time, they need a lead guard. The Nets have the assets to land one – but barely. Here, they’re picking up a dynamic offensive guard without giving up any draft capital.

In time, they could flip Beal for a true superstar with their picks. Alternatively, they could land a star to pair with Beal and Mikal Bridges. Either way, the Nets are exploiting a buy-low opportunity on the best offensive player in this trade. Perhaps they’ll form the league’s next superteam.
