Nets Trade Proposal Lands Brandon Ingram From Pelicans

In theory, many NBA teams would like to trade for a star. That’s easier said than done. When a star player becomes available, typically, a bidding war gets underway.

Take the Brooklyn Nets. Everyone expects them to trade for a star. It’ll be easier said than done. The Nets have a decent collection of draft capital, but several teams around the league could outbid them if they wanted the same star.

In all likelihood, the best players in the league won’t be available to Brooklyn. They may have to settle for trading for a B-list star instead. How about Brandon Ingram of the New Orleans Pelicans?

NBA Trade Proposal

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: F/C Ben Simmons, 2025 First-Round Pick (PHX via BKN), 2027 First-Round Pick (Top 8 Protected – PHI via BKN), 2029 First-Round Pick (DAL via BKN)

Brooklyn Nets Receive: G/F Brandon Ingram

Trading for a star is nice. Arguably, drafting a star is better. When you draft a star, they’re cost-controlled for years. They’re also more likely to remain loyal to your franchise.

With that said, looking for a star in the draft has its drawbacks. Stardom isn’t guaranteed. Look at Simmons. He was the number one overall pick. Simmons looked like a star for years until he rapidly fell from grace.

Either way, it’s a moot point to the Nets. They don’t own their own first-round pick until 2028. That’s a large part of why they’re expected to trade for a star. Is Ingram the right star?

Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal

Some will argue that the Nets already have a star. That feels like a generous estimate of Mikal Bridges to us. He’s a great player, but he’s not somebody that you build a franchise around.

At one point, he was seen as the best 3-and-D wing in basketball. With an increased offensive role in Brooklyn, his defense has slipped. Would he return to form if the Nets brought a first offensive option on board?

It’s worth finding out. Ingram could be that option. His ability to create shots for himself and his teammates makes him a dynamic offensive player. Should the Pelicans part with him?

Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal

The Pelicans have been the subject of trade rumors recently. It’s been suggested that they’ll look to part with one of Ingram or Zion Williamson. Who should they choose?

You can make either case. Sure, Williamson is extremely injury prone. Still, his ceiling is higher than Ingram’s. The Pelicans may not like the idea of giving up on their former number-one pick this summer.

If so, they’ll look to move Ingram. Here, they’re taking back a bad contract that’s soon to expire. More importantly, they’re landing three first-round picks. In time, they could use those picks to – you guessed it – trade for a star.
