Warriors Trade Proposal Lands Alex Caruso From Bulls

The relationship between an NBA team and an NBA player can get complicated. At times, a player can get fed up with their team. If they don’t feel appreciated, they may want to get traded.

With that said, a team can repair that relationship. They can reinvest in a player. Look at the Golden State Warriors. It seemed that Jonathan Kuminga was on his way out of the door. Now, he looks empowered as a key part of the team’s future.

It was said that the Warriors refused to move Kuminga at this year’s deadline. They were linked to some major names, but they wouldn’t spare Kuminga to land them. One of those names was Alex Caruso of the Chicago Bulls. Is there another way that the Warriors could land him this summer?

Chicago Bulls Receive: G/F Gary Payton II, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2028 First-Round Pick (GSW)

Golden State Warriors Receive: G/F Alex Caruso

With that said, front offices get attached to players. Who can blame them? A front office has a vision. The players that they acquire are the most important part of that vision.

Still, front offices need to be flexible. When a situation changes, a front office’s vision should change alongside it. An NBA front office needs to be able to recognize when it’s time to pivot.

Should the Bulls pivot? Plenty of fans thought they should have made moves at the deadline. They didn’t. Could they reevaluate their vision this summer?

Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal

The Bulls were supposed to be sellers at the deadline. Instead, they held steady. Now, they’re burdened with expectations. The Bulls need to make the playoffs in 2023-24 to justify their deadline.

Let’s suppose that they miss the playoffs. In that event, the Bulls need to rebuild. This team will officially be stuck on the mediocrity treadmill. The best way to get off of that treadmill is to trade their most valuable trade chip for some assets.

That’s what they’re doing here. The Bulls are flipping Caruso for two unprotected firsts. If they can find takers for Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic, this deal gets their rebuild off on the right foot. Should the Warriors help them rebuild?

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

The Bulls aren’t the only team stuck on the mediocrity treadmill. The Warriors are at risk of landing in that position. This team does not look like a title contender in 2023-24.

Fair enough. The Warriors are aging. In particular, Klay Thompson hasn’t looked like the player that he used to be. If the Warriors replaced him with an elite 3-and-D guard, they could get back on track.

Caruso may be the best 3-and-D guard in the NBA. He’d be a massive upgrade for this roster and could push the Warriors back into title contention. Best of all, they’re landing him without trading Jonathan Kuminga.
