The Philadelphia 76ers got off to an excellent start this NBA season, and many people started to feel that they had developed into legitimate championship contenders. However, there was also a feeling they needed one more piece, likely off the bench, in order to truly compete for all the marbles.

Superstar center Joel Embiid’s recent meniscus injury may increase the sense of urgency for the 76ers to secure an upgrade via the trade market. He will reportedly undergo a procedure, and although they haven’t “closed the door” on him returning later this season, he is expected to miss a considerable amount of time.

A recent report indicated that Philly may not go after Toronto Raptors wing Bruce Brown. But Ben Cotton of Fox Sports proposed a trade package that could land it the versatile two-way player. Philadelphia would send out Marcus Morris Sr., Jaden Springer, and two-second round picks.

First off, the great thing about this trade is that it would preserve the Sixers’ depth. Morris has played just 17.2 minutes per game this season for them, and they have other players who could fill in those minutes in a productive manner.

Springer, the No. 28 pick in the 2021 draft, hasn’t emerged into anything meaningful, and perhaps playing for the rebuilding Raptors would give him an opportunity to spread his wings.

Brown played for the NBA champion Denver Nuggets last season, and he’s regarded as the type of role or complementary player who can do more than one thing well while playing multiple positions. He’s a strong defender, and while he isn’t the most accurate 3-point shooter, he is at least somewhat of a threat from that distance. He can also serve as a makeshift ball-handler in some situations.
