Stephen Curry‘s stellar 60-point performance was overshadowed by the Golden State Warriors’ 141-134 overtime defeat to the Atlanta Hawks, led by Trae Young, during Saturday’s NBA action.

Despite Curry’s season-best effort, the Warriors’ struggle continued, dropping them to a 21-25 record and placing them 12th in the Western Conference.

Curry expressed his frustration at the loss, highlighting the fine margins that could have altered the game’s outcome. His 60 points fell just short of his career-best 62 points, achieved against Portland in January 2021. Curry’s remarkable shooting included 22 field goals on 38 attempts, 10 of which were three-pointers, and a perfect free throw record for the night.

“It sucks to not have something to show for it,” Curry said. “It’s frustrating, obviously, not coming away with the win knowing a couple plays here, a couple plays there could have been a different outcome. It just adds to our frustrating season.”

Draymond Green and Warriors coach Steve Kerr lauded Curry’s performance, with Kerr calling it “incredible” and acknowledging the team’s competitive spirit despite not clinching the win.

“It just seems he continues to get better, which is special at his age,” Green said of Curry.

Trae Young led the Hawks with 35 points, with significant contributions from Dejounte Murray, who scored the opening seven points in overtime, Onyeka Okongwu, with a career-high 22 points and 16 rebounds, and Jalen Johnson, who added 21 points.

The game reached a pivotal moment when Curry’s late jumper in the fourth quarter was countered by Murray, forcing the game into overtime, where the Hawks eventually secured the victory.

This matchup was particularly poignant for Young, who has often spoken of his admiration for Curry. Despite not being selected for the All-Star team, Young’s performance remains noteworthy, averaging 27.3 points and leading the NBA with 11 assists per game.

“They’re a lot more fun when you win,” Young said. “You always want to battle, you always want to compete, you want to show your best off against the best. … Steph was obviously going in that second half.”

The Warriors faced additional challenges with injuries and absences. Forward Dario Saric was out due to illness, Andrew Wiggins sustained a foot injury, and Jonathan Kuminga fouled out late in the game. Despite these setbacks, the team hopes to regroup for their upcoming game against Brooklyn.
