According to NBA insider K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, the Golden State Warriors tried to trade for Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso.

The Bulls, who announced yesterday that Zach LaVine will undergo season-ending foot surgery, are not interested in trading Caruso.

“League sources indicated that even before LaVine’s surgery news had broken, multiple teams, including the Golden State Warriors, had inquired on Caruso,” Johnson wrote in his NBA article. “To this point, management largely had rebuffed interest in Caruso because an internal focus centered on chasing a playoff spot.”

Caruso is averaging 10.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks this season while shooting 48.6% from the field, 40.5% from beyond the arc and 75.8% from the free-throw line. He’s making $9.5 million. Caruso has a plus-minus of +30 this season.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Bulls would need multiple first-round picks to even consider trading Caruso. All signs point toward Chicago keeping Caruso past the NBA trade deadline, which is on February 8.

One of the best defenders in the NBA, Caruso has career averages of 6.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Los Angeles Lakers and Bulls. The Texas native won the 2020 NBA championship with Los Angeles.

Along with the Warriors, Caruso has drawn trade interest from the Lakers, Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks, sources told NBA Analysis Network. The Bulls (23-27), who are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings, have shut down all inquiries on Caruso.
