According to NBA insider Marc Stein, head coach Quin Snyder doesn’t want the Atlanta Hawks to trade Dejounte Murray.

The Hawks are open to trading Murray, who is making $17.7 million this season.

“Another interesting wrinkle to emerge on the Murray front: League sources say Coach Quin Snyder has lobbied the Hawks to keep him,” Stein wrote in his latest NBA post on Substack.

The Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons are interested in acquiring Murray, sources told NBA Analysis Network. The NBA trade deadline is on February 8.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Dejounte Murray, Quin Snyder, Atlanta Hawks Updates

Murray is averaging 21.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 46.9% from the field, 38.8% from beyond the arc and 83.0% from the free-throw line. He’s one of the top two-way players in the NBA.

Despite having Murray and Trae Young, the Hawks are only 19-27 on the season. They are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Murray signed a four-year, $114 million extension with Atlanta last summer. He’ll make $24.8 million next season.

The Lakers offered D’Angelo Russell, Jalen Hood-Schifino and draft picks to the Hawks for Murray, who has the same agent as LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Atlanta was resistant to the inclusion of Russell unless a third team could be found to take on his contract, according to Stein. Russell has a player option next season worth $18.7 million.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Dejounte Murray, Quin Snyder, Atlanta Hawks Updates

The Lakers’ pursuit of Murray has been dialed back since Russell has been on a tear recently. D’Lo is averaging 27.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.0 blocks over his last eight games while shooting 52.3% from the floor, 54.2% from 3 and 92.0% from the foul line.
