According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Chris Haynes, the Cleveland Cavaliers will not trade Donovan Mitchell or Jarrett Allen this season.
The Cavaliers are playing well, so there’s no reason to break up their core.
“Another important note from Haynes via his latest Bleacher Report live stream: Donovan Mitchell is not the only core player in Cleveland who has team officials swatting away trade inquiries,” Stein wrote in his latest post on Substack. “The Cavaliers, per Haynes, likewise have no interest in fielding trade interest in Jarrett Allen leading up to the Feb. 8 deadline.”
The Cavaliers are 27-16. They are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Mitchell is averaging 27.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.4 blocks this season while shooting 46.0% from the field, 34.9% from beyond the arc and 86.3% from the free-throw line. He’s making $32.6 million.

Meanwhile, Allen is averaging 15.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.1 blocks while shooting 64.9% overall and 75.6% from the foul line. He’s making $20 million.
The New York Knicks and Miami Heat are interested in trading for Mitchell, while the New Orleans Pelicans are interested in trading for Allen. The Cavaliers, who lost to the Knicks in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games, are planning to ride out the season with their core of Mitchell, Allen, Evan Mobley and Darius Garland.
Mitchell has career averages of 24.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Utah Jazz and Cavaliers. He’s one of the best scorers in the NBA.

Allen, meanwhile, has career averages of 12.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.3 blocks with the Brooklyn Nets and Cavaliers. He’s one of the top rebounders and shot-blockers in the league.
