Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors community is still in mourning following the sudden loss of assistant coach Dejan Milojevic. This tragic event has understandably made it challenging to focus on the team’s basketball performance and future prospects. However, as the offseason approaches, many questions regarding the team’s future will need to be addressed.

One of the pressing issues at hand is the future of head coach Steve Kerr.

Currently in the final year of his contract, the Warriors find themselves in a challenging position with a 19-23 record, placing them 12th in the Western Conference after a thrilling but ultimately disappointing loss to the Sacramento Kings, with a score of 134-133.

While there are valid concerns about the team’s performance, insiders suggest that Kerr remains motivated to continue leading the Warriors in the future. His dedication to the team and his role in orchestrating their past successes cannot be overlooked.

Anthony Slater, a Warriors’ insider for The Athletic, revealed a major report about Kerr’s future.

“Steve’s not burnt out. Steve wants to keep coaching. We’ll see if they get something done. Steve’s very private about any negotiation, and so there’s not that much info out there…We’ll see. I think some of it depends on what happens the rest of the season.”

One significant factor that could greatly impact the direction of the franchise is the organization’s league-leading luxury tax payment, exceeding a staggering $188 million. If the Warriors’ current season ends without them being genuine contenders in the Western Conference, ownership may be inclined to consider dismantling the dynasty that has defined the team’s recent history.

As a coach, Steve Kerr is perhaps the most expendable member of the core group, especially given that his contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Regardless of what unfolds in the coming months, Kerr will always be recognized for his pivotal role in bringing together the remarkable talent that has defined the Warriors’ roster—an increasingly challenging task in today’s modern NBA landscape.

In the meantime, the Warriors will do their best to postpone the inevitable changes that lie ahead. Their next challenge comes in the form of a Saturday night showdown against the Los Angeles Lakers, as they continue to navigate the uncertain path that lies before them.
