According to NBA insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers would be interested in signing Kyle Lowry if the veteran gets bought out by the Charlotte Hornets.

The Miami Heat traded Lowry to the Hornets in the Terry Rozier deal. Charlotte will either trade or buy out Lowry.

“According to team and league sources, Kyle Lowry, who could be available if he’s bought out by Charlotte after being traded there from Miami this week, is one name to watch for the Lakers,” Buha wrote.

The Lakers almost acquired Lowry from the Toronto Raptors during the 2020-21 season. However, Los Angeles didn’t want to part ways with Talen Horton-Tucker, so a deal didn’t happen.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Kyle Lowry, Los Angeles Lakers Updates

Lowry is in the final year of his contract. He’s making $29.7 million this season. The Villanova product is averaging 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks while shooting 42.6% from the field, 38.5% from 3 and 83.3% from the foul line.

A six-time All-Star, Lowry has career averages of 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Raptors and Heat. He turns 38 in March. Lowry has made one All-NBA team and won one title.

The Lakers are trying to acquire Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks. Since D’Angelo Russell would be part of that trade, LAL would need to add another ball-handler since Gabe Vincent may not play again this season.

The Lakers are 23-23. They are in ninth place in the Western Conference standings. If the season ended today, LAL would be in the play-in tournament for the third time in four years.
