Report: Heat Looking To Trade Kyle Lowry

According to NBA insider Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald, the Miami Heat are looking to trade Kyle Lowry.

Lowry is in the final year of his contract. He’s making $29.7 million this season.

“The Heat continues to explore trades involving Kyle Lowry ahead of the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline, according to multiple league sources,” Chiang wrote. “Lowry holds value on the trade market with his sizable expiring $29.7 million salary.”

Lowry has appeared in 37 games this season. He’s averaging 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks while shooting 42.6% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free-throw line. He has a plus-minus of +13.

The Heat signed Lowry to a three-year, $85 million contract in August 2021 as part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Toronto Raptors. Miami is 92-63 in the regular season with Lowry in the lineup.

At 24-19, the Heat are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They have been linked to Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray and Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Rozier prefers to get traded to Miami.

“Terry Rozier’s strong play has made the combo guard a more viable trade candidate than ever at his $24 million average annual salary, with a known preference to join the Miami Heat, league sources told Yahoo Sports,” Fischer wrote.

A six-time All-Star, Lowry has career averages of 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Raptors and Heat. He helped Toronto win the 2019 championship over the Golden State Warriors in six games.
