If you’re an NBA fan, you love a blockbuster trade. Recently, your itch was scratched. The Toronto Raptors sent Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers. This was the most significant trade we’ve seen since the summer.

The Raptors received an exciting package in return. They netted three first-round picks. The Raptors also received some intriguing young players. They also received Bruce Brown. Wait – Bruce Brown?

Yes, Bruce Brown. The Raptors may value Brown – but we don’t know if this team plans on rebuilding for long. On the other hand, he could have been necessary to make the money work. The Raptors could look to move him at the deadline.

Could they send him to the Dallas Mavericks?

Dallas Mavericks Receive: G/F Bruce Brown

By now, Brown has seen it all in the National Basketball Association. Last year, he was a key cog in the Denver Nuggets’ championship run. Why didn’t Brown stick in Denver?

Money. Nobody should fault Brown for looking out for his best interests. Still, nobody is jumping from the Nuggets to the Indiana Pacers for basketball reasons. The Pacers gave Brown a massive – and well-deserved – pay raise.

So, it was something of a surprise when they moved him mere months later. In doing so, the Pacers leaped towards title contention. Now, Brown is on a Raptors team with no title odds.

Could they move him to the contending Mavericks?

Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal

It depends on what route the Raptors want to take from here. This team already has plenty of young talent. Brown is a player who compliments Scottie Barnes. Toronto could decide that they’d prefer to get competitive sooner rather than later and keep Brown.

At the same time, this team is far from title contention. The Raptors have a talented young core, but it may not be enough to settle on. Outside of Barnes, there are no surefire future stars in this group. The Raptors are still rebuilding.

Therefore, it makes sense to flip Brown for a similar, younger player in Green. His inclusion in this deal is the reason why the pick is lightly protected – that’s a worthwhile tradeoff. Green could be part of this team moving forward.

Should the Mavericks part with him?

Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal

Sure. Green and Brown are similar. Brown is better. To begin with, he’s a more reliable floor spacer. That will open up the floor for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

At the same time, Brown has a more versatile skillset than Green as well. He’s a capable ball-handler who can even finish pick-and-rolls. His do-it-all skill set should be perfect for a contending team like the Mavericks.

Dallas shouldn’t hesitate to add him at this cost. This team doesn’t even play Richaun Holmes. Green is a solid young player, but his impact is far behind Brown’s. This is a trade worth making for the Mavericks – even if it isn’t a blockbuster.
